Dr. Ioannis Gegkes<\/strong> was born in Athens. He graduated from Arsakeio Tositseio of Ekali in 1998 and subsequently, after entrance examinations, enrolled in the School of Medicine at the University of Bologna, Italy. He completed his medical studies in July 2006 with the highest distinction (\u201csumma cum laude\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From July 2007 until July 2008, he fulfilled his rural medical service at the General Hospital-Health Center of Karystos, working in the surgical department of the local hospital. At the end of that same year, he began his doctoral thesis entitled \u201cExpression of neuropeptides and apoptosis in the skin during embryonic life\u201d<\/em> at the First Laboratory of Pathological Anatomy of the Medical School of the University of Athens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He completed his military service as a medical officer at the 625th Mechanized Infantry Battalion in Petrochori, Xanthi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2012, he began the first six months of his specialization in General Surgery at the Surgical Clinic of the General Hospital of Corinth, while he continued and completed his specialization at the First General Surgery Clinic of KAT General Hospital in Athens. He was awarded his Doctorate from the University of Athens in July 2016. In February 2018, he obtained his title of specialization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During and particularly after the completion of his surgical specialization, he pursued further training in Emergency Surgery (Kingston Hospital, London), Coloproctology, and Pelvic Floor Surgery (Churchill Hospital, Oxford \u2013 Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital) at various hospitals in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January 2018, he received a scholarship from the Hellenic Surgical Society for further specialization in Coloproctology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He trained in minimally invasive rectal techniques (TEMS, TAMIS) at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, Scotland in November 2018. In February 2019, he trained in anal surgeries at the Coloproctology Department of the Geneva University Hospitals (H\u00f4pitaux Universitaires de Gen\u00e8ve, HUG). In May of the same year, he specialized in endoanal ultrasound at St Thomas\u2019 Hospital in London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Ioannis Gegkes<\/strong> has a special interest in diseases of the anorectal canal, pelvic floor disorders, as well as HPV-related anal conditions. He also has an extensive academic portfolio, with over 70 scientific articles indexed in PubMed, as well as authorship of several international book chapters and books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
