Topics covered include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pain during or after defecation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Swelling or something protruding from the anus during bowel movements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Presence of blood or fluid from the anus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Previous anal surgeries or procedures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to retain gas and stool<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cleaning habits and time spent on the toilet<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any history of anal penetration (with or without protection)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Colonoscopy history, smoking, other medical conditions, allergies, and use of anticoagulants or other medications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The patient\u2019s psychological state, profession, and personal needs are also essential in shaping diagnosis and treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-4e9ac9d7 gb-headline-text\">Physical Examination<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the consultation, the patient lies on their left side in a fetal position. A trained nurse assists with positioning. In some cases, the patient may assist using a gloved hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We understand this examination may feel uncomfortable or distressing, so our team prioritizes trust and empathy throughout the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-289cc6ae gb-headline-text\">Components of the Proctological Exam<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Visual inspection<\/strong> of the anal area<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Digital rectal exam<\/strong> using a gloved, lubricated, and anesthetized finger<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Proctoscopy<\/strong>: Use of a small tubular instrument to examine the anal canal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>High-resolution anoscopy<\/strong>: Performed in HPV cases, using acetic acid gauze for visualization<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Endoanal ultrasound<\/strong>: Essential for identifying and mapping abscesses, fistulas, incontinence, and tumors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Microbial cultures<\/strong> when needed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Recommendations and prescriptions<\/strong> for blood tests or MRI imaging<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-0d76b036 gb-headline-text\">After the Examination<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the exam is complete, the patient receives a full explanation of the findings, diagnosis, and treatment options.
