Antibiotics alone simply mask the problem and are not a sufficient treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is a Perianal Abscess?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A perianal abscess is an acute inflammatory condition characterized by the accumulation of pus in a cavity around the anus. It is a serious condition that requires prompt medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Signs and Symptoms<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Severe pain in the anal area<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Swelling and redness around the anus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fever and chills (especially in deeper abscesses)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pus discharge (if the abscess ruptures spontaneously)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-baabdf33 gb-headline-text\">Causes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The most common cause is infection originating from an internal anal gland (fistula). Other causes include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hidradenitis suppurativa<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Boils or furuncles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Crohn\u2019s disease<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minor injuries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chronic constipation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Diagnosis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Diagnosis includes both clinical examination and imaging studies.
